We read "The Napping House" by Audrey Wood

It was a really cute book! We made an 'H' house to go with it.

We also read "Are You A Horse?" by Andy Rash
(can't find a pic- sorry.) Also a really cute book! We made a 'h' horse to go with it.

We also read about Hippo's. Very cool animals!! We read some fiction and non-fiction books and made a hippo puppet. One of the books had a green hippo, so that's why our hippo has green hair!

G

Our 'G' week was mixed in with lots of family in town and a funeral. We talked about Goats and Goose (our little g- it has a beak, but it's under Squirts hand). We read books, did online puzzles and looked at lots of pictures.

We also talked about giraffes
complete with hand puppet.

F

We talked about Foxes (our F below- it's a stretch I know!) on day 1. We read a couple of books about them and we played Pin the Tail on Swiper (a printable from nickjr.com)

On day 2, we read a couple of "Rainbow Fish" books. and made a lower case 'f' fish. You can't tell from the picture, but he has several shiny scales (tin foil)

Day 3 we talked about Families. We worked on spelling our last name, and talked about Family relationships (aunts, uncles, cousins...) We made a family tree, which I thought turned out too cute! It was especially appropriate this week because one of the Great Grandma's died this week and it was a great way to remember her and talk about Eternal Families. Do you like our stick figure great grandpa's?? I didn't have pictures of them because they died before I was part of the family.
Day 4 we talked about Firemen. I discovered a wonderful thing called Lapbooks recently, they are a brilliant way to teach different skills. Here is the fireman one I blogged about a while ago.

Front Cover, it's a puzzle that we glued on.
Back cover. It's a shadow matching game, in the top left is a pocket for the pictures, the shadows are glued on.
The inside. It has a patterns game, spelling my name game, counting game, colors and fireman word flash cards. So far it's been a hit!


I've done as much as I could to reinforce the 'F' thing, but he still can't remember what letter it is to save his life. So we'll probably have to work on it some more. I'm not in any big hurry though. I know it will come.

E

Our week of E was kindof busy. So we mainly reviewed A-D and then talked briefly about E. My little guy has an E in his name so he recognizes it pretty easily.

We did Elephants and eggs. Mainly we read stories and practiced handwriting.

Here is our 'E' interpretations! He refused to hold it. But it's cute anyway!

A new alphabet game

Some people are so brilliant and I love that they share their knowledge for FREE.

I laminated the cards and punched a hole in the corner to hold them together when not in use. We used clothes pins to find the lower case letter. I was shocked at how many he knew. Maybe this preschool thing is actually working!

Our Alphabet Game

This is our Alphabet Game. It hit me in the shower one morning, and so far it has been a huge hit. We spread out the upper case letters and go in order. In just a few times of playing it my little guy knew almost all of his letters. Now he's a pro, and we've taken it to the next level: lower case letters and sounds. We're not really strong on lower case letters yet, so we spread them out and start with the one's he knows, and then I help him figure out where the others go. The pile of letters we don't know is getting smaller every day. We do the same for the sounds!
